Matt Damon returns in the third, and final, installment of the Bourne series. Now, generally, the third film in the series is the weakest: Matrix Revolutions, Return of the Jedi, Spider-Man, Godfather, etc. However, every once in a while, you'll see a third film that outshines them all...Lord of the Rings, Revenge of the Sith (when compared to the other prequels). This, THANK GOD, happens to fall in the later category. Not only is it as good as Bourne Identity and Bourne Supremacy, but it actually outshines them and ties up MANY loose ends. But not only that, it adds new twists and turns that you don't see coming, finishing up one of the best action series of all time.
Let's start with the action. The chase scenes and fight scenes are unparalleled. Just full on, intense action that leaves you breathless. That's how an action movie SHOULD be done!
Now, the story. It adds to the trilogy, not only tying up loose ends, but adds to layers to the Bourne story and identity that you wouldn't expect. It simply adds to the other films, while being able to stand on its own as a well-done film.
Matt Damon should THANK GOD that he was given this part years ago, as its really become his signature role. The boy can act, plain and simple. His command presence of the audience is impressive, as he becomes a unique hero - one that can be hurt, who isn't a nice guy, that you still root for. As opposed to the suave and debonair tuxedo drinking spy who we all know and love.
The score of the film certainly adds to the tension and action, making it a fun experience that leaves you, in many ways, exhausted! You realize you've held your breathe for so long, that you need to relax for a second. My advice - get a drink or two before OR after, just to relax the nerves! Negatives...
There aren't many here, except that the action scenes might give you a headache. If you get dizzy easily from motion sickness, this may be tough to stomach. The action is SO real, it hurts.
Positives...
Overall, a great film. Great action. Great acting and a hell of a story.
Bottom line...
Go see this film. This is how an action movie should be done. A real story with tons of action and characters you like to watch. Getting stuck with action films with no story this summer (Transformers, Spider-Man, etc.), this is a fresh change that leaves you wanting a fourth installment of the series - too bad that won't happen!
And I STILL say that Matt Damon would make a GREAT Captain Kirk! |
